Under the able leadership of Thomas Fairlie, founding Musical Director/
Conductor, the Temple Symphony Orchestra embarks on its 14th season.
The TSO is made up of approximately 65 talented, professional musicians
from the greater Temple and Central Texas area. Most are educators, but all
have a passion for music and their instrument.
The mission of the Temple Symphony Orchestra is to provide music of the
highest artistic standard, performing a broad range of repertoire to a wide
and diverse audience through live performance; to act as ambassador to the
community; to educate students and adults in the rich orchestral traditions
of our heritage; and to serve as a leader in the cultural life of Central Texas.
The TSO is dedicated to making the orchestral experience accessible and
appealing to everyone and is committed to providing the community with
quality musical programming. Throughout the season, the Temple Symphony
Orchestra features local as well as national and international artists performing
classical music, pops and jazz.
A very active volunteer board of directors provides guidance and raises
funds to support the Temple Symphony Orchestra. The Executive Director,
Rick Thomssen, and the Personnel Manager, James Flowers, carry out administrative
activities.
The Temple Symphony Orchestra is privileged to have an auxiliary organization,
The Temple Symphony Alliance, which provides volunteer services
for mailings, ushering, hospitality, and hosts the annual "Taste of
the Town" food and wine tasting fundraiser.
Funding for the TSO is provided by corporate sponsors, grants, an annual
fund drive, individual benefactors and patrons, fund-raising activities, program
advertising, season memberships and ticket sales.
